"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Our Mission Statement

As an outreach of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Westminster Preschool is designed to provide opportunities for age-appropriate social, emotional, educational, and physical growth for preschool children. It is committed to developing and implementing a loving, safe, and Christian environment for children to explore their understanding of self, others, and God.

The Program

We are a child-care center licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and, therefore, subject to the standards set for Religiously Exempt Child Day Centers dated 8/2004.  We will also follow the Minimum Standards for Licensed Child Care Centers and other state regulations.  We currently have enrollment in preschool classes ranging from two-year-olds to five-year-olds.

Our overall goal is to provide a quality enrichment program in Christian environment for local preschool children.  In so doing, we want to provide a safe, secure and stimulating environment-based on a loving Christian approach in which the developmental needs of each child are considered and met.

The Goals

Goals for the children are:
  • To enhance spiritual growth and development (including weekly chapel time)
  • To further develop gross and fine motor skills
  • To provide a variety of opportunities for social growth and enrichment
  • To develop and expand language skills and number concepts
  • To help children evaluate and make a variety of choices
  • To help understand feelings, needs, self-image and interdependence of themselves and others
  • To further enhance overall creativity
  • To help child build his/her self-esteem
  • To explore through various styles of learning

Parent Information

An orientation will be held prior to the beginning of preschool to acquaint the family with our program. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to visit our classrooms at anytime. Parents are also invited to volunteer in the classroom and assist with field trips and class parties.

Our regularly scheduled parent conferences will be in January and in the spring.

General Information

Our staff members possess a love and respect for children. They are warm, sensitive and understanding. Each of them has a minimum of 3000 hours experience in teaching preschool children. Developmentally appropriate, theme-based instruction is provided and includes a weekly Chapel time and Music class.

All classrooms and bathrooms are on one level. We have an equipped kitchen, a fenced outdoor playground, and a large indoor play area with Little Tykes equipment. The preschool is routinely inspected by the Waynesboro Health Department, The Waynesboro Fire Department and the Department of Social Services.  All staff has had a Criminal History and Child Abuse clearance provided by the Virginia State Police.   The staff must also be certified in CPR and First Aid as well as taking eight hours of continuing education annually.    We also receive support services provided by the Waynesboro City School

Requirements

All children need to be the age of their class by September 30th of the year they will be entering school.  For example:  you must be two by September 30th to begin school in the fall.  You will also need to have a completed “School Entrance Form” on record.  This is a physical and immunization form that all local physicians have in their offices.   We are required to see your child’s Birth certificate or Passport and we will return them to you immediately.  We just need to get some information from them that is required for State Licensing
